The Rumble EP Track #6 – Slave To Fortune
It’s taken me a while to put these words together (apologies if I’ve kept you waiting).
I sing this song at all my shows as it helps me heal and is a lot easier than talking / writing about it. This is a significant emotional song for me.
I’ve not seen or spoken to my daughter since June 2016 – she was 16 in March 2019.
I know she is safe and I know she is being looked after and I live in hope that once she goes through what she’s going through we will pick up on our relationship. I miss and think about her everyday.
Christmas 2016 was a very tough time for me – it was the first Christmas spent apart from my daughter after 13 years. The song was actually written as a Christmas song to help me get through that time.
It’s a song of acceptance relating to the situation that I have no control over. I can only wait and pray for that I see her and hope we start a new relationship soon. The song is a letter to my daughter to let know that my love is unconditional, I think about her every day, urge her to be kind and let her know I am here for her. I really do miss being a dad.
Slave To Fortune Lyrics
I miss being your dad,
It really make’s me sad
Accept that things are changing, memories are fading of the good things that we had
I don’t know how you look, I don’t know what you like
Are you doing well in school hope everything is cool?
You’re always on my mind
I think about you everyday, learnt to hide away the pain
I know that you are safe and well and pray in time that you’ll come to tell me
When I break it down I’m a Slave to Fortune
Can’t control everything I need
Yes I’ve broken down I’m a Slave to Fortune
Whilst there’s light I still believe
Who’s your best friend now, I hope you’re being kind
Blue Skies will appear, knowing that you’re near you’re always on my mind
I think about you everyday, learnt to hide away the pain
I know that you are safe and well and pray in time that you’ll come to tell me
When I break it down I’m a Slave to Fortune
Can’t control everything I need
Yes I’ve broken down I’m a Slave to Fortune
Whilst there’s light I still believe
When I break it down I’m a Slave to Fortune
Can’t control everything I need
Yes I’ve broken down I’m a Slave to Fortune
Whilst there’s light I still believe
I don’t know how you look, I don’t know what you like
Are you doing well in school hope everything is cool?
But I miss being your Dad
